The New Waaree Renewable 291 MW Solar EPC Project With 280 MWh BESS

Waaree Renewable 291 MW Solar EPC Project

Waaree Renewable Technologies has secured a Letter of Award for a large-scale renewable energy project combining solar generation with battery storage. The Waaree Renewable 291 MW solar EPC project covers engineering, procurement and construction work for a 291 MWp ground-mounted solar PV installation integrated with a 280 MWh battery energy storage system. What the Order Covers

The company received the LOA on August 28, 2026, and disclosed the development to stock exchanges the same day under Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements. Source

The order comes from an Indian thermal power generating company and is classified as a domestic commercial order, not a related-party transaction. Waaree Renewable Technologies confirmed that neither its promoters, promoter group, nor any group companies hold interest in the awarding entity.

The Waaree Renewable 291 MW solar EPC project is scheduled for completion during financial year 2027-28. The company has not disclosed the monetary value of the contract, with the order size specified purely in terms of solar and storage capacity rather than a rupee figure. Source

Storage Becomes Part of the Standard Package

What stands out about this award is the integration of battery storage directly into the EPC mandate. Rather than treating solar generation and storage as separate contracts, the 280 MWh BESS component sits under the same execution scope as the 291 MWp solar plant, giving Waaree Renewable Technologies responsibility for delivering both generation and storage infrastructure together. That combined structure in the Waaree Renewable 291 MW solar EPC project reflects a broader shift in India’s renewable sector, where thermal generators are increasingly pairing solar capacity with storage to firm up output and smooth grid supply.

Waaree Renewable 291 MW Solar EPC Project: Part of a Broader Order Run

This isn’t an isolated win. The Waaree Renewable 291 MW solar EPC project is the latest in a string of orders the company has picked up through August 2026, including a 300 MW EPC contract for a solar PV project with two years of O&M support, and a smaller EPC order for a 210 MWp ground-mount project. The company’s bidding pipeline reportedly includes more than 37 GWp of solar projects and over 10 GWh of BESS opportunities, alongside transmission and distribution work worth more than ₹20,000 crore.

The company behind the Waaree Renewable 291 MW solar EPC project is a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited and trades on the BSE under scrip code 534618 and on the NSE under the symbol WAAREERTL. The company’s existing order book, reported at roughly ₹861.82 crore before this latest award, has been growing steadily through a run of domestic EPC wins across the solar and storage segment this year.

Why the BESS Component Matters

For India’s grid operators, pairing solar generation with co-located storage addresses a structural problem: solar output peaks during daylight hours while demand often peaks in the evening. A 280 MWh battery system attached directly to a 291 MWp solar plant gives the awarding thermal generator the ability to shift stored solar output into higher-demand periods, rather than relying purely on daytime generation or separate standalone storage procurement.

This project adds to a growing category of hybrid EPC awards in India, where developers are increasingly bundling generation and storage into a single execution contract rather than procuring them through separate tenders. As more thermal and renewable generators pursue this integrated model, EPC contractors capable of delivering both solar and battery infrastructure under one mandate are positioned to capture a larger share of India’s expanding renewable pipeline.
