Union Minister Shantanu Thakur has laid the foundation stone for a single-lane bridge over the Ichamati River in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. The bridge, to be constructed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) at Swarupnagar, is estimated to cost ₹16 crore and aims to ensure safer transit while allowing uninterrupted river navigation.
The minister also announced plans for another bridge at Taranipur under the Sagarmala Project, with an estimated cost of ₹136.20 crore. The development of National Waterways 44, including dredging operations and navigational aids, is underway to promote inland water transport and sustainable growth in the region.
