UP launches ₹15,000 cr rural road building drive

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the government of Uttar Pradesh has begun building a 19,000 km long road network (PMGSY). Over 12,000 km of roads connecting villages with the main roads have been built in the last five years at a cost of more than 6,500 crores. Now, the 19,000 km of roads that will cost 15,000 crore to build will be finished by 2024 or 2025. About 4106.46 km of roads were built under the PMGSY in the fiscal year 2017–18 with investments totaling 1,822 crore.

In a similar vein, 1688.27 km of roads were finished in the fiscal year 2018–19 for a cost of 1134.80 crore, 376.08 km of roads were built for a cost of 356.63 crore, and 3368.44 km of roads were built for a cost of 2074.24 crore during the fiscal year 2021–22. Additionally, by the first half of July, 2055.734 km of roads totaling 686.30 crore had been built during the fiscal year 2022–23.
