Bokaro: On Saturday, an under-construction bridge being erected by the state public works department (PWD) at Rangamatia Jodia that would have connected Rangamatia and Galgalta villages in Bokaro’s Chandankyari block collapsed.
Kuldeep Chaudhary, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Bokaro, has ordered an investigation into the event.
“The executive engineer of special division of PWD and the block development officer (BDO) of Chandankyari will conduct an investigation and submit a report as soon as possible,” the DC stated.
While the locals blamed the contractor for using subpar materials in the building, a PWD officer indicated the shuttering pipe was weak, which may have contributed to the collapse.
The bridge was cast about a week ago. It is approximately 45 feet long and 30 feet wide. According to villagers, the contractor used old frozen cement fragments instead of ballast.
They claimed that the cement-cast sands were not utilised properly.
The project was approved in 2019 to stimulate industrial development in Rangamatia, and construction began two years ago. It is being built on a Rs 16cr budget. This route also connects Jharkhand to West Bengal’s Purulia.
