This information was made public by the state’s finance minister, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, who stated that the Chennai Metro Rail Company Limited (CMRL) intends to provide metro train services on five lines in Coimbatore. A feasibility study was carried out in 2019 to see if the 144 km metro rail project could be implemented. The government’s project is anticipated to greatly enhance connectivity and transportation options in Coimbatore.
