‘The world has changed forever now’: Netizens react to OpenAI’s new ‘scary impressive’ ChatGPT 4o

ChatGPT 4 has a striking resemblance to Spike Jonze’s 2013 science fiction film “Her,” in which Scarlett Johansson’s character, Theodore, a lonely and bereaved writer, falls in love with Samantha, an intelligent artificial intelligence operating system.

On Monday, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT 4o, a new AI model that can interpret spoken language in real time, recognise your facial expressions, and converse with you in a human voice. This reminds us a lot of what we saw in the movie “Her,” starring Scarlett Johansson. It has a cinematic AI sense to it. The fact that it’s genuine still surprises me a little, said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

During the occasion, OpenAI CTO Mira Murati even demonstrated the ChatGPT 4o voice assistant by asking it to narrate a bedtime story, transition to a robotic voice, and end the story in a singing voice. This demonstrated how quick, responsive, and effective the new AI voice assistant is.

This sounds a lot like the science fiction film “Her,” directed by Spike Jonze in 2013, about a lonely and sad writer named Theodore who falls in love with Samantha, a sophisticated AI operating system played by Scarlett Johansson. It demonstrates how an AI assistant that can converse with you like a person might take the place of human connections. To further fuel our speculation, Altman made a suggestion that this voice assistant is indeed similar to the one in the movie in a post titled “Her” on X, the old name of Twitter, soon after the incident.

“Don’t let it happen the way the movie played out,” one person said in response, while another stated that “the world has changed forever now.” Interestingly, Samantha had to leave the movie in the end so that Theodore may resume his regular life and handle his problematic interpersonal connections.

Someone penned, “Why, truly? While it may be enjoyable, is this really what mankind needs? One person said, “ChatGPT is now also Tinder.” LOL. “Wow, the movie ‘Her’ has become a reality,” another person wrote. The new GPT-4o (omni) from OpenAI is terrifyingly amazing.

Remarkably, Altman had previously acknowledged at a gathering that “her” is his favourite movie. He said, “I enjoy ‘Her.'” The parts that “Her” got right were extremely prescient, such as the entire interaction models of how people utilise AI.

As stated by Shorthills AI Co-Founder Pawan Prabhat, “ChatGPT 4o cannot replace human relationships.” I believe that people are aware that we already have gadgets like Alexa and Siri—even from movies. Although at first some may get carried away, these activities don’t really alter relationships. Naturally, our interactions with machines will change over time and become more natural.”

“We should be happy that we are in such a time when we are witnessing such progress,” he continued. Even if some individuals may go overboard and spend more time, in the long run, everything will be far more advantageous. It will relieve people of a great deal of tedious work and greatly facilitate problem-solving interactions with these devices. I believe that we shouldn’t be afraid of technology; the only things that should worry us are potential frauds and deepfakes. Technology will even be able to assist us in identifying those deepfakes and stopping frauds and scams of that kind.”
