Sify data centers to invest in over 200 MW of green power

Sify Technologies has announced a major commitment to renewable energy for its growing data center portfolio in India. The company entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vibrant Energy Holdings, a majority-owned subsidiary of Blue Leaf Energy Asia, a portfolio company of Macquaries GIG. These PPAs have a combined solar and wind capacity of 231 MW to power Sify’s newest hyperscale data center, with a 67 MW solar PPA signed in March 2021 and recently commissioned.

The partnership is the first step in the company’s clear roadmap to minimize reliance on fossil fuels to operate its fast-growing data center business and significantly reduce its carbon footprint. By investing in both solar and wind power, Sify will soon be able to supply most of the electricity it needs for its flagship data center in Mumbai through renewable energy, and intends to further increase its penetration of renewable energy across the country.
