In the “Sustainable Cities” category, Ramky Infrastructure Limited (Ramky) has been granted the FICCI Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024. Their efforts to treat and remove legacy leachate in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana, have been acknowledged with this award.
The award showcases creative urban infrastructure solutions and is given out during the 7th FICCI Cities Summit and the 5th Smart Urban Innovation Awards. Out of a record 98 entries, Ramky was one of 10 organizations recognized, highlighting their commitment to India’s smart cities mission.
Legacy leachate is a hazardous waste byproduct that contaminates groundwater and surrounding bodies of water, posing a major environmental risk. A 2,000 KLD leachate treatment plant was part of Ramky’s creative solution to this problem. The stabilization and restoration of ponds close to the waste treatment facility was another aspect of this project. With the initial projected volume of legacy leachate in Hyderabad reaching 849,780.88 Kilolitres (KL), the project notably addressed a considerable obstacle.
“We feel privileged to have been granted the Smart Urban Innovation Award 2024 in the Sustainable Cities division,” stated Y.R. Nagaraja, Ramky Infrastructure Limited’s managing director. “This honor is a testament to Ramky’s unwavering dedication to offering urban solutions that clear the path for our communities to have a sustainable future. This dedication is demonstrated by the Hyderabad leachate treatment plant, the first of its type in the nation and a model for similar initiatives to come. Our commitment to creating and implementing infrastructure solutions that support both the current and upcoming generations’ access to a cleaner and healthier future endures.”
