MMRDA is looking for bids for Metro Lines 4 & 4A at Rs. 711.34 billion.

The Mogharpada neighbourhood of the metropolitan city will be home to the building of Metro Lines 4 and 4A, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued a request for bids. Construction of the depot and related infrastructure, such as the stable yard, operational control centre, administrative building.

maintenance and workshop facilities, and auxiliary substation, is part of the project, which will cost Rs. 711.34 crore. The work also entails the design and construction of ETP and STP over the course of 36 months, as well as the construction of staff quarters, architectural finishing, and plumbing earthworks for land development, compound walls, approach roads, bridges connecting to depots, underground utility ducts, drainage systems, and underground utility ducts.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated a significant infrastructure project by inviting bids for the construction of depot facilities for Metro Lines 4 and 4A at Mogharpada. This project, estimated at ₹711.34 crore, aims to bolster Mumbai’s metro network and enhance urban mobility.

Scope of Work

The tender encompasses the development of comprehensive depot infrastructure to support the operations of Metro Lines 4 and 4A. Key components include:

  • Stabling Yard: A facility for parking and organizing trains when not in active service.
  • Operational Control Centre (OCC): The central hub for monitoring and managing metro operations, ensuring efficient and safe transit.
  • Administrative Building: Offices to house administrative and management personnel overseeing metro services.
  • Maintenance and Workshop Buildings: Spaces equipped for routine maintenance, repairs, and technical overhauls of metro trains.
  • Auxiliary Substation: A facility to manage and distribute electrical power necessary for depot and train operations.
  • Staff Quarters: Residential accommodations for employees to ensure round-the-clock availability of essential personnel.
  • Architectural Finishing and Plumbing: Interior and exterior finishing works, including necessary plumbing installations.
  • Earthworks for Land Development: Preparation of the site, including grading and leveling to accommodate the new structures.
  • Compound Wall and Road Approach: Construction of perimeter security walls and access roads to integrate the depot with existing transport networks.
  • Bridge Connecting to Depot: A bridge facilitating seamless connectivity between the depot and mainline tracks.
  • Underground Utility Ducts and Drainage System: Installation of essential utilities and drainage to support depot operations.
  • Design and Build of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): Facilities to manage and treat waste and sewage generated within the depot premises.

The project is slated for completion within 36 months from the commencement date, reflecting MMRDA’s commitment to expediting infrastructure development.

Strategic Importance

Metro Lines 4 and 4A are integral to Mumbai’s expanding metro network, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and provide efficient public transportation. The 35.2 km corridor will connect Wadala to Kasarvadavali and extend to Gaimukh, encompassing 34 stations. The Mogharpada depot will serve as a critical maintenance and operational hub, ensuring the reliability and safety of services on these lines.

In April 2023, the contract for constructing the Mogharpada depot was awarded to the joint venture of SEW Infrastructure and Vishwa Samudra Engineering (SEW–VSE JV). This development marked a significant milestone in advancing the project towards its targeted timelines.

The MMRDA’s initiative to develop the Mogharpada depot for Metro Lines 4 and 4A underscores its dedication to enhancing Mumbai’s public transportation infrastructure. This project is poised to play a pivotal role in improving urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and contributing to the city’s sustainable development goals.
