MEIL-HCC awarded ₹3,681-cr contract to build BKC station for bullet train

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has been making headlines ever since it was first announced. The latest development in the project is that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded a contract worth ₹3,681 crore to the Mumbai-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, MEIL-HCC Consortium, to build the Mumbai Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station for the bullet train.

This is a major development as the BKC station is one of the most important stops on the MAHSR route. The station will be built on a 22-hectare plot of land and will have a total length of 700 metres. It will have two levels – the concourse level and the platform level. The concourse level will have ticketing counters, a waiting area, food and beverage outlets, and retail shops. The platform level will have four platforms to accommodate the high-speed trains.

This is a significant contract for MEIL-HCC Consortium, and is a testimony to the company’s capability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects. This contract is also a boost to the MAHSR project, which is facing
