Karti Chidambaram, a Congressman, asks Mansukh Mandaviya to hasten the construction of AIIMS Madurai.

Karti Chidambaram, a Congressman from Tamil Nadu, has asked the Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya to hasten the construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai. In a letter to the minister, Chidambaram said that the AIIMS in Madurai was announced by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 and foundation stone for the same was laid by him in 2015. “It is almost five years since the announcement was made and three years since the foundation stone was laid. Yet, the construction of the AIIMS has not even started,” he said.

He also said that the people of Tamil Nadu have been “greatly disappointed” by the slow progress of the AIIMS project. “I would, therefore, urge you to personally look into the matter and expedite the construction of the AIIMS, Madurai,” Chidambaram said in the letter.
