India-Iran inks Chabahar Port infrastructure pact

Along with recent steps to strengthen and create modern infrastructure in the strategically positioned Chabahar Port, India and Iran have expanded their maritime collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the reciprocal recognition of seafarers’ codes of conduct for unlimited journeys. Iranian mariners will participate in training exercises in India as a result of the MoU. As India is also considering a trilateral maritime cooperation encompassing Iran, India, and Oman, the deal will open up new avenues for collaboration in the Western Indian Ocean region.

The expansion of goods transit through the Chabahar Port is a top priority for the Iranian government as it prepares to sign a long-term agreement with India. The agreement will also attempt to increase the International North-South Transport Corridor’s activities (INSTC).
