Hygenco installs India’s first green hydrogen demo plant in Ujjain

In Madhya Pradesh, Hygenco installed India’s first off-grid solar PV-based green hydrogen pilot plant. This green hydrogen pilot plant is a) 100 percent green because it is grid-independent (or powered by fossil fuels) and b) in line with India’s Atmanirbhar Vision of becoming energy self-sufficient by showing cost-competitive green hydrogen production.

Meeting these two goals will help India accomplish its climate goals while also positioning it as a worldwide hydrogen Centre.

The pilot plant, which is located in the Ujjain District (about 60 kilometers from Ujjain), began trial operations on March 31, 2022 and was completely commissioned on April 15, 2022. Hygenco is taking advantage of the abundant renewable energy resources in the area to generate solar and wind energy.

“We are honoured to contribute to India’s goal of producing five million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030.” Amit Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Hygenco, said, “This pilot plant will be part of our R&D Center of Excellence in hydrogen technology.”

Hygenco’s green hydrogen pilot plant is a state-of-the-art, fully autonomous facility run by a sophisticated energy management and control system. Hundreds of factors are monitored by the EMCS, including solar PV generation, state of charge, hydrogen generation, pressure, temperature, and electrolyser purities, and it makes autonomous real-time decisions to attain high efficiencies. Hygenco can use the technology to boost hydrogen yield and provide cost-effective hydrogen to its customers.
