Gujarat gets India’s first Steel Slag Road

A road made with 100% processed steel slag aggregates in all bitumen layers has come up in Surat, Gujarat. It is sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Central Road Research Institute. The project also taps the Government of India’s Waste to Wealth and Clean India Campaign.

The thickness of the road has also been reduced by 30 per cent. This new method can prevent the roads from any damage caused during the monsoon season. With this experiment, the highways and other roads can become stronger and the cost is also reduced by about 30%.
