Gujarat clears ₹1,550 cr Narmada Canal extension

The Gujarat state government has approved a $1.550 crore project to extend the Dudhai sub-branch Narmada canal in Kutch district by 45 kilometres. The decision will allow the district’s Anjar and Bhuj talukas to irrigate an additional 13,175 hectares of land.

Farmers in the Bhuj and Anjar talukas had been requesting water from the Narmada canal network to irrigate their agricultural land, according to an official statement. To clear the project, a review meeting was recently held in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of the state chief minister. As a result, the Dudhai sub-branch canal will be extended all the way to Kunariya village.

The canal extension will allow Narmada water to be stored in the Rudramata dam. Between Dudhai and Kunariya, an additional 45 kilometres of sub-canal will be built, with 176 structures. The CM has directed Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) officials to begin the project’s tender process as soon as possible.
