Govt plans 567 projects worth ₹58,700 cr in port sector

According to Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Ministry of Ports has formulated a plan under the Sagarmala Program to carry out “Holistic Development of Coastal Districts” with a 58,700 crore investment. The Ministry has identified 567 projects in convergence mode, with port-led projects focusing on logistics cost reduction and EXIM competitiveness, and Holistic Development of Coastal Districts aiming to close infrastructure gaps in coastal areas and improve economic opportunities. With the addition of projects identified under the Holistic Development of Coastal Districts programme and new project proposals under Sagarmala, the total number of projects worth 6.5 lakh crore now stands at 1537, with 802 projects worth 5.5 lakh crore scheduled to be completed by 2035. According to the ministry’s official statement, 202 projects worth 99,281 crore have been completed and 29 projects worth 45,000 crore have been successfully implemented under the PPP model, reducing the financial burden on the exchequer.
