Govt approves ₹2,062 cr rail line doubling projects

The Network Planning Group has approved three significant railway projects under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, including the doubling of the rail line between Gorakhpur Cantt and Valmikinagar, the doubling of the tracks between Katihar and Mukuria and Katihar and Kumedpur, and the conversion and extension of the Pachora-Jamner gauge to Bodwad. A total of $2,062 crore has been invested in the projects. All three projects are crucial to ensuring quicker product movement, accelerating logistics efficiency, and lowering logistics costs.

To reach the goal of moving 3,000 million metric tonnes of freight, railroads identified a network of lines with a high density. The 95 km stretch between Gorakhpur Cantt and Valmikinagar is significant because there is only one railway line that affects freight movement. The proposed doubling project, estimated to cost 1,120 crore, is already well underway from Valmikinagar up to Muzaffarpur and is anticipated to significantly increase logistics efficiency. With an investment of 942 crore, the Katihar-Mukuria and Katihar-Kumedpur Doubling will significantly aid in moving cargo from Kolkata Port to Virat Nagar. Bypass double line railway connectivity for Jalgaon and Bhusawal will be provided by the Pachora – Jamner Gauge Conversion & Extension up to Bodwad. It will allow for quicker freight movement between JNPT and Nagpur and the eastern part of the country.
