Ganga Expressway worth ₹36,230-cr gets eco clearance

Environmental clearance has been granted for the 594 km long, $36,230 crore Ganga Expressway. The six-lane, access-controlled greenfield project, for which 94 percent of the land has been acquired and all necessary legislative approvals have been obtained, is expected to start soon and be finished in 2025 because the contractor must complete the project in 36 months. The expressway, which is being built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, will connect Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in eastern Uttar Pradesh, cutting the travel time between those two cities from the current 10–11 hours to just 6-7 hours once it is operational.

A loan from PNB in the amount of 4,480 crore has been obtained by UPEIDA. Adani Enterprises will develop the remaining 460 km of the highway, while IRB Infrastructure Developers will build one of the four packages from Meerut to Amroha and three packages from Amroha to Prayagra. IRB will build 134 km of the expressway. The state’s eastern region’s scenery will alter as a result of the expressway. It will serve as an industrial thoroughfare that links remote manufacturing facilities and agricultural production hubs to the national capital.
