Four booked on charge of mining in Dera Bassi

Two Kheri Gujran women (landowners) and two unidentified people have been arrested for mining in Dera Bassi’s Samgoli village. Three vehicles were impounded, one of which did not have a licence plate. “Dera Bassi JE-cum-mining officer Narottam Sharma said the local MLA had found soil being dug up in fields with the help of Poclain machines and tippers,” said Dera Bassi SHO Kulveer Singh. The Water Resources Department had only granted permission to level the land, but deep digging was underway. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa said he went to the site after receiving a complaint. TNS

Prof Yajvender Pal Verma of Panjab University’s University Institute of Engineering and Technology has been appointed Registrar, PU, until further orders. The Vice-office Chancellor’s issued the orders on Wednesday. He will take over for Vikram Nayyar, who has been given additional responsibility for the same position. TNS

Swati Tiwana, a 2016 PCS officer from Dera Bassi, has been transferred to the Punjab School Education Board in Mohali as Secretary. Her replacement has yet to be announced by the government.
