Exit Polls 2024: A massive infrastructure push expected in railways, highways and aviation under Modi 3.0
A major component of this expansion plan is modernising infrastructure, which includes building new bullet train projects, access control speedways, and positioning India as a hub for international aviation.

The three infrastructure sectors—airports, highways, and railroads—are anticipated to continue to be the government’s primary priorities in its third term, with business participants anticipating enormous investment opportunities, as exit polls indicate that the Modi government will return.

National highways have expanded by 60% throughout the previous two terms of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, growing in length from 91,287 km in 2014 to 146,145 km by the end of 2023. By the end of 2023, there will be 46,179 km of national highways with four lanes or more, up from 18,387 km in 2014.

Known as the nation’s lifeline, the Indian Railways handled 5.85 billion passengers in FY23. Under the Modi administration, the railways underwent a significant modernization push that included the deployment of the semi-high speed train Vande Bharat in numerous regions of the nation. The modernization of airports and the addition of a few smaller cities to the nation’s aviation network have both contributed to the aviation sector’s growing trajectory.

The analysts anticipate that if the government retakes control, the infrastructure industries will benefit even more. According to exit polls, the Indian public is giving the BJP a sizable mandate when it returns to power. The industry hopes that in Q2FY25, there will be a huge pipeline of projects in the highways sector with the government looking for bigger private player participation,” said a major construction player

In Q1FY25, there was a deceleration in the awarding of roadway projects subsequent to the implementation of the model code of conduct in March. It’s anticipated that this figure will increase in July.

In a May 25 investor call, Yogesh Kumar Jain, MD of PNC Infratech Limited, stated, “The industry is hopeful that bidding and awarding activities will pick up after the conclusion of ongoing General Elections and a large number of projects would be awarded during FY25.”

In the upcoming months, the railway industry will probably see more contracts for Vande Bharat and other track capacity augmentation projects. By 2030, the government intends to increase the number of Vande Bharat trains from approximately 90 to 800. According to experts, the figure might be reached earlier, considering that several state and private production units are upgrading their facilities to mass produce these modernised coaches.

The suggested plan for infrastructure expansion during the Modi government is presented in the BJP manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A major component of this expansion plan is modernising infrastructure, which includes building new bullet train projects, access control speedways, and positioning India as a hub for international aviation.

World-class Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Namo Bharat trains are what we have designed and produced. We intend to extend this network of modern trains even further. Vande Sleeper trains will be launched for a cosy nighttime ride. According to the party manifesto, “regional connectivity programmes will be launched in other major cities to ensure robust connectivity and integrate the regional economies.”

The aviation ministry is developing a master plan to turn airports into regional hubs for international travel in the aviation industry. supplying a single point of connection to specific global areas. Modern airports, improved air connectivity, and enhanced passenger amenities are all included in the master plan.
