Epiroc trials first battery-electric drill rig

The world’s first battery-electric drill rig for surface operations is being field tested by Epiroc and the Swedish construction firm Skanska.

The trial is a significant step toward drilling with zero emissions in quarries and surface mines all around the world.

With the debut of its battery-powered drill rig for surface operations, Epiroc is making a significant advancement. The rig’s design was inspired by Epiroc’s tried-and-true SmartROC T35 surface drill rig.

The SmartROC T35 E is created to improve the environmental requirements of quarries and larger construction sites using Epiroc’s extensive experience from the development of underground battery rigs.
