Construction at the Vizhinjam port cannot be stopped, the Minister informs the Assembly.

Construction at the Vizhinjam port in Kerala, India, cannot be stopped, the Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mansukh Mandaviya, informed the state Assembly on Tuesday.

The Minister was replying to a question by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, who had alleged that the construction work at the port had stopped.

Mandaviya said that the construction work was going on as per schedule and that the BJP-led NDA government was committed to the development of the port.

He also said that the government was in the process of finalising a contract with a consortium of Adani Ports and SEZ, and L&T for the construction of the port.

The Minister’s reply came after Chennithala raised the issue of the alleged irregularities in the award of the contract for the construction of the port.

Chennithala alleged that the contract was awarded to the Adani group without following the due process of tender.

He also demanded that the government order a probe into the alleged irregularities.
