CMRL awards signaling contract to Hitachi Rail

The contractor should deliver the software months in advance so that trials can start because the first stretch between Poonamallee and Power House is likely to be completed by the end of 2025, according to CMRL official sources. Hitachi Rail Signalling and Transportation Systems India was awarded one of the largest contracts in Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.’s Phase II project for designing and developing signalling software. A dependable signalling system is essential for Chennai Metro Rail’s Phase II driverless train operations since it controls a variety of tasks, including as announcements in stations and trains and other vital parts of train operations.

It is planned that Phase II of the project will use a different signalling method than Phase I. The communications-based train control signalling system, which administrators claim is a better and more accurate system, will be implemented in Phase II as opposed to the distance-to-go signalling system that CMRL built for the Phase I project. Trains from the Phase I project won’t run in Phase II as a result. Wherever there are interchange stations, commuters must disembark, walk a short distance, and then board the train.
