The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has decided to invest Rs 1,300 crore in the construction of the Kharghar Turbhe Link Road (KTLR), which will include a tunnel through the hills that connects the two regions. Motorists travelling from Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai to Kharghar will save about 30 minutes on their journey. The project has already been approved by the CIDCO board, and it has been forwarded to the state government for mandatory approval. CIDCO is expected to obtain the necessary government, environmental, and other permissions for the project in the near future, allowing it to begin construction.
The KTLR will run from Turbhe to Kharghar via Juinagar, cutting through the hills, and will allow motorists from Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai to bypass the Sion-Panvel Highway, Thane Belapur Road, and Palm Beach Road in order to reach Kharghar directly. It will reduce travel time from 40 minutes to 10 minutes and reduce distance from 15 kilometres to just 5 kilometres.
