Centre sanctions ₹1,093cr for NH-72 in Uttarakhand

The Central government has approved a budget of Rs 1,093 crore to widen the two-lane Ballupur-Paonta Sahib highway in Dehradun to four lanes. Uttarakhand’s connectivity with Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh will be improved. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had previously invited tenders in 2018 for the preparation of a detailed project.

Report (DPR) for highway widening at a cost of Rs 820 crore. The 41-kilometer-long Ballupur-Paonta Sahib stretch of NH-72 is currently 10 metres wide, but it will be upgraded to 20 metres after the upgrade. The four-lane highway will reduce travel time between Dehradun and Chandigarh once it is completed. Construction is expected to begin in the next three months and take two years to complete.
