Centre Approves ₹24,000 Cr for 4-Lane Road from Umiam to Silchar
Through this project, Guwahati in Assam would be connected to Silchar, Mizoram, and Tripura.

In an effort to increase road connections to Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura, the Centre has authorized ₹24,000 crore for the construction of a four-lane road that will run from Umiam to Silchar via the East Jaintia Hills district.

The building of a four-lane highway with the goal of improving access to Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura via the East Jaintia Hills district and Umiam.

Of the total, ₹12,000 crore has been approved for the construction of a 100-kilometer section in Meghalaya that will connect Umiam and Malidor. Through this project, Guwahati in Assam would be connected to Silchar, Mizoram, and Tripura. The remaining ₹12,000 crore would be used to build the remaining four lanes of the Assamese highway.

The current National Highway-6, which is in terrible shape in several places in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills area, will be replaced with the new four-lane road.
