Cabinet unveils ₹6600-cr scheme to develop Northeastern states

A $6600 crore plan has been approved by the Union Cabinet for the development of India’s north-eastern states. The PM-DevINE programme, which stands for the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the Northeast Region, will be in effect for the final four years of the 15th Finance Commission, from 2022–2023 to 2025–2026.

With a full 100% funding contribution from the union government, PM-DevINE will operate as a central sector scheme. The plan will be put into action by the Ministry of Development of the Northeastern Region (DoNER).

The scheme’s primary goals will be to promote the development of infrastructure, support industries, social development initiatives, and livelihood opportunities for women and young people. The funding for the infrastructure projects will be allocated in accordance with the guidelines established by the PM Gati Shakti programme.

Additionally, it will make larger funds accessible for significant infrastructure development projects and assist infrastructure and social development initiatives that call for higher outlays.
