Bullet Train Project Completes All River Bridges Between Vapi & Surat

On October 29, 2024, the last of the nine river bridges between Vapi and Surat for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor was finished on the Kharera River in Gujarat’s Navsari district. The piers of this 120-meter-long bridge, which includes three 40-meter girders, range in height from 14.5 to 19 meters. Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor was finished on the Kharera River in Gujarat’s Navsari district.

The Kharera bridge, which is situated between the Vapi and Bilimora bullet train stations, is the 12th of 20 river bridges finished for the project in Gujarat. The Kolak, Par, Auranga, and Kaveri rivers are crossed by further finished bridges in this section. Twelve river bridges, including those across the Dhadhar, Mohar, and Vatrak rivers in various districts, have been finished in Gujarat thus far.

Bullet Train Project Completes All River Bridges Between Vapi & Surat

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of all river bridges between Vapi and Surat. This marks a crucial step in the progress of India’s first high-speed rail corridor, bringing it closer to operational readiness.

Milestone Achievement

The completion of river bridges is a major infrastructure achievement, as these structures play a vital role in ensuring seamless rail connectivity across natural obstacles. The segment between Vapi and Surat includes multiple river crossings, requiring advanced engineering and construction techniques to ensure durability and efficiency.

Engineering and Construction Challenges

Building river bridges for the high-speed rail project involved overcoming several technical challenges, including:

  • Geotechnical Stability – Ensuring strong foundation structures in varying soil and water conditions.
  • Flood-Resistant Designs – Constructing bridges capable of withstanding seasonal variations in river water levels.
  • Precision Construction – Aligning the bridges with the high-speed rail track for smooth operations.

Impact on Project Timeline

With the completion of these critical structures, the overall construction progress has gained significant momentum. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is expected to accelerate towards its planned phases of track laying, station development, and system integration.

Future Prospects

The successful completion of these river bridges reinforces the commitment of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to meet project deadlines. As the project advances, further developments in viaduct construction, tunnel excavation, and station infrastructure are expected.
