The government of Assam has initiated the construction of the new Majuli-Jorhat bridge over the Brahmaputra River, with an investment of Rs 92.547 crore. In the next few years, Majuli will be well connected by bridges on both sides, as another bridge will be built to connect the river island and Sivasagar according to the Asom Mala plan.

The new 6.8 km long bridge will connect Nimatighat in Jorhat to Kamalabari Ghat in Majuli and will allow enough ships to connect to the island. Of the 10 ferries operating between Nimatighat and Majuli earlier, 5 have already installed marine engines, and the remaining 5 will be put into use soon.

Inland water transport also operates seven large ships on the aforementioned river routes. In fact, there are currently 17 ships commuting every hour, which is enough to meet people’s interconnection needs.
