Around 393 infra projects records cost overruns of Rs 4.65 trillion

A cost overrun of more than Rs 4.65 lakh crore has been reported for as many as 393 infrastructure projects, each requiring an investment of at least Rs 150 crore.

393 projects out of 1,526 reported cost overruns, while up to 647 projects were delayed.

The estimated cost of completing 1526 projects is expected to be Rs 25,91,823.45 crore. The entire initial cost of implementation was Rs 21,26,460.93 crore. Up until August 2022, these projects cost a total of Rs 13,60,645.94 crore. Additionally, 607 projects’ tentative gestation length and commissioning year have not been disclosed.

Up to 647 projects have been postponed. According to several project-implementing organisations, delays in land acquisition, gaining environmental and forest clearances, and lack of infrastructure support and connections are a few of the causes of time overruns.
