Apple has been testing ChatGPT integrated Siri assistant since 2023: Report

There have been several reports lately regarding a possible agreement between Apple and OpenAI for new AI-powered capabilities for iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. But according to a 9To5Mac article that referenced The Information, Apple has been testing

OpenAI’s GPT model internally for its virtual assistant Siri since last year. It further notes that since mid-2023, talks have been ongoing between Apple and Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, reportedly had conversations with Apple staff members working in the machine learning division of the corporation during the June Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) of the previous year. Apple and Altman apparently came to an arrangement for Apple to use OpenAI’s Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for internal testing, while details of the conversations remain unclear.

Using the AI model underlying OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Apple has internally integrated Siri to create a new virtual assistant prototype that was able to handle and analyse far more complicated inquiries and more precisely comprehend the context behind an input. When 9To5Mac revealed that the initial beta of iOS 17.4 included “a new Siri summarization private framework that makes calls to the OpenAI’s ChatGPT API,” it provided evidence of this.

It is expected that Apple will formally announce the agreement during the forthcoming WWDC 2024, which takes place on June 10. New AI tools and capabilities, many of which are anticipated to be driven by OpenAI’s AI models, are anticipated to be included in its next-generation operating system for iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.

Although OpenAI’s agreement with Apple would benefit Microsoft, the business that invested $13.1 billion in the company, the story claims that Microsoft has been wary of the collaboration. A partnership between Apple and OpenAI will put the Cupertino, California-based tech behemoth in direct competition with OpenAI, whose GPT model powers Microsoft’s Copilot AI functions.

Apple Has Been Testing ChatGPT-Integrated Siri Since 2023: Report

Apple has reportedly been testing an advanced version of Siri powered by ChatGPT since 2023, signaling a major leap in AI-driven voice assistance. According to industry sources, the tech giant has been experimenting with large language models (LLMs) to enhance Siri’s capabilities, making it more conversational, intelligent, and context-aware.

The integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Siri could allow the assistant to provide more accurate responses, handle complex queries, and engage in natural, human-like conversations. Apple has long been criticized for Siri’s limitations compared to rivals like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. By leveraging ChatGPT, Apple aims to bridge this gap and offer a more powerful AI-driven experience across iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Reports suggest that Apple is also working on on-device AI processing to ensure faster responses and improved privacy. This could enable Siri to handle tasks without relying solely on cloud processing, a major advantage in terms of security and performance.

With AI becoming the core focus of modern technology, Apple’s move toward integrating ChatGPT-powered Siri could redefine voice assistants, making them more intuitive and efficient for everyday users. An official announcement is expected in upcoming Apple events.

Apple Has Been Testing ChatGPT-Integrated Siri Since 2023: Report

Apple has reportedly been testing an advanced version of Siri integrated with OpenAI’s ChatGPT since 2023, aiming to enhance its AI capabilities, according to a new report. This development is part of Apple’s broader efforts to make Siri more intelligent and competitive with AI-powered assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The report suggests that Apple engineers have been working on integrating ChatGPT’s natural language processing abilities into Siri to improve contextual understanding and response accuracy. The enhanced version is expected to offer more conversational and dynamic interactions, allowing users to engage in more complex queries and receive better responses.

Apple’s AI advancements align with its focus on on-device processing and privacy, meaning that any integration with ChatGPT will likely be optimized for security and efficiency. While Apple has not officially confirmed these developments, industry experts believe that the upgraded Siri could debut in future iOS updates, possibly with iOS 18.

As AI-driven virtual assistants continue to evolve, Apple’s move to incorporate ChatGPT into Siri could significantly enhance user experience and help the company regain its competitive edge in the AI space. More details on Apple’s AI strategy are expected at the upcoming WWDC event.
