Apple and Altman apparently came to an arrangement for Apple to use OpenAI’s Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for internal testing, while details of the conversations remain unclear.

Using the AI model underlying OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Apple has internally integrated Siri to create a new virtual assistant prototype that was able to handle and analyse far more complicated inquiries and more precisely comprehend the context behind an input. When 9To5Mac revealed that the initial beta of iOS 17.4 included “a new Siri summarization private framework that makes calls to the OpenAI’s ChatGPT API,” it provided evidence of this.
