Ammann Group Completes Acquisition of ABG Pavers from Volvo CE
The ABG paving product line from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has been acquired by the Ammann Group.

The Ammann Group has completed the purchase of Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) ABG paving product range. The transfer of Volvo CE’s paving businesses in Linyi, China, and Bangalore, India, along with the ABG factory in Hameln, Germany, is part of this strategic transaction. “We are pleased to welcome ABG as a strong brand to Ammann,” stated Hans-Christian Schneider, Ammann’s CEO. “We will continue to build on ABG’s exceptional product line and reputation and provide complete roadbuilding solutions for the industry.”

ABG pavers and screeds will still be produced at the Hameln location after the takeover. In the near future, Ammann Group’s production facilities in Suzhou, China, and Mehsana, India, will also start up, boosting the company’s capacity for worldwide roadbuilding solutions and increasing its manufacturing capabilities.

Ammann will keep the ABG brand name as part of the deal. According to Bernd Holz, Executive Vice President of Ammann, “the ABG brand is synonymous with quality in the industry and aligns perfectly with Ammann’s history in asphalt compaction.”

Originally founded in 1945 as a business for repairing construction equipment, ABG has grown to become one of the most well-known paving brands in the world. At INTERMAT 2024 in Paris, ABG unveiled a new electric paver as evidence of its continuous innovation.

Our capacity to offer complete, state-of-the-art road construction equipment solutions throughout India and the world is enhanced by this synergy. It puts us in a strategic position to meet India’s growing infrastructure needs, which are essential to creating a solid foundation for long-term, sustainable economic growth. Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director of Ammann India Pvt. Ltd., stated, “With ABG’s robust product portfolio, we shall intensify our delivery of high-performance paving products that align perfectly with our history of excellence in asphalt paving and compaction.”

The development of the pavers will be guided by Ammann’s client relationships and industry knowledge; ABG in Hameln, Germany, will serve as the Group’s Center of Excellence for paving operations.

There is a wide variety of paving goods available, ranging from a 1.5 meter basic screed width to 13 meters of paving width that are used for job sites like highways and airports. There are two types of screeds: fixed and variable. They work well with asphalt, graded mineral mixes, roller-compacted concrete, and railroad ballast. “We have several other models to meet the unique needs of every customer, in addition to our smallest and largest pavers,” Holz stated.

Ammann ABG pavers are renowned for their cutting-edge technology, robustness, ease of use, and high construction quality. Their purpose is to minimize fuel usage, cut down on pollutants, and run silently. There are options for tracked and wheeled pavers.

As they have been for the better part of the company’s nearly 80-year existence, the ABG screeds are also important differentiators. Holz stated, “The screeds have raised the bar in the asphalt industry consistently, a tradition that continues to this day.” The first globally available high-compaction screed with hydraulic adjustment was offered by ABG. One of the more recent innovations is the e+ screed heat system, which can reduce CO2 emissions and save thirty minutes of warm-up time every shift.

Modern screeds come equipped with a single or double tamper, hydraulically operated end gates as an option, a sophisticated quick-coupling system for simple extensions, and unique profile features. With the twin tamper technology, you may get up to 98% Marshall density and a higher degree of compaction of 5%–7%.

Variomatic screeds come with a variety of compaction technologies and can pave at widths of up to ten meters. They can be tailored to fit a variety of project types, including those with unique profiles and hot or cold mixes. It is simple to stretch the electrically heated Variomatic screeds to more than double their standard width. Through Ammann’s vast Dealer network, the pavers and a large selection of light and heavy compaction equipment are available.
