In a first-of-its-kind project, the metropolitan area of Mumbai is building a double-decker flyover, with a flyover for road traffic on the first deck and a Metro station on the second. The project, which is being built between Dahisar and Mira Bhayander on Mumbai Metro Line 9, required a $6,607 crore investment. Additionally, contractors have been building the bridge as they go for the first time with a straddle carrier. A portion of the 11.386-km-long, 10-station Mumbai Metro Red Line 7 extension, which connects Andheri and Dahisar, has been in operation since April 2022.
Due to the fact that this line will cross a double-decker bridge, it will be special. The flyover will begin close to the site of the future Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road) Metro station and travel along MiraBhayander Road until it reaches Bhayander (West). An official spokesperson explained that between Kashigaon and Subhash Chandra Bose ground, there are three such double-decker viaducts on Kashimira Road, measuring 1.5 km, 1.1 km, and 754 m for vehicles and metro trains. This will provide interconnectivity between the Western Express Highway, the Western Railway, and the Mumbai Metro (Line 2 and Line 7).
