The National Highways Authority of India has started construction work on the 187-km-long highway projects in Kerala entailing an investment of ₹21,271 crore. The 120-kilometer Palakkad-Malappuram-Kozhikode greenfield highway, a 12.34-kilometer elevated stretch between Thuravoor and Aroor, and the 59-kilometer Shenkottai-Kollam greenfield highway were among the major projects.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the construction of 177 kilometres of road network, and work on 403 kilometres of road projects worth 34,972 crore is currently underway. The Palakkad-Malappuram-Kozhikode Highway will relieve traffic congestion on the existing NH 966, reducing the total time required to cover the distance from three and a half hours to one and a half hours. This will help remote areas of the Palakkad and Malappuram districts develop, as well as improve inter-state connectivity between Tamil Nadu and northern Kerala.
