MoRTH clears ₹4,200-cr NH project in Ayodhya

The Union transport ministry has accelerated the building of 84-Kosi Parikrama Marg in Ayodhya, which has been classified as a national highway. The ministry has cleared two DPRs for this 4200 crore 235.6 km-long project, which is being developed in six phases by the NHAI and PWD. It will also be referred to as NH-227B.

The highway will run through five districts: Basti, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, and Gonda. The two-lane route will be 45 metres wide, with one lane measuring approximately 22.5 metres. Around 10-m of this will be a genuine road, with the remainder serving as a kaccha path for devotees during the 84–kosi parikrama. Wayside amenities will be built at 23 locations along the route, and Ramayan era trees will be planted along the route, linking roughly 51 holy sites. The project is planned to be finished by December 2023, when the Ram Mandir will be open to pilgrims.
