The Prime Minister laid the groundwork for 11 projects worth Rs 31,400 crore in Tamil Nadu and dedicated five projects worth Rs 2,900 crore to the country. The PM announced six projects totaling 28,500 crores, including the construction of a 262-kilometer Bengaluru-Chennai expressway for 14,870 crore. It will go across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, reducing travel time from Bengaluru to Chennai by 2-3 hours.
Aside from that, a 21-kilometer-long four-lane double-decker elevated road between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal (NH- 4) will be built at a cost of 5,850 crore. It will allow for 24-hour movement of freight vehicles to and from Chennai port.
The 94-kilometer four-lane Neraluru-Dharmapuri portion of NH-844 and the 31-kilometer two-lane with paved shoulders Meensurutti-Chidambaram stretch of NH-227 are costing 3,870 crore and 720 crore, respectively. The foundation stones for the reconstruction of five railway stations, namely Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi, and Kanyakumari, were also placed, with a total investment of Rs. 1,800 crore.
The Prime Minister inaugurated a Multi-Modal Logistic Park in Chennai worth over Rs. 1,400 crore to facilitate seamless intermodal freight transportation and to provide a variety of functionality.
