Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for development projects in Gujarat worth nearly Rs 22,000 crore yesterday at Asia’s largest dome in Dahod.

PM Modi stated that Dahod, Gujarat, will be a major Make in India hub, and that the government’s initiative to boost local manufacturing will gain traction as a workshop here, which was established in the pre-independence period for the overhaul of steam locomotives, is being upgraded to produce electric locomotives.

He said that demand for electric locomotives is increasing abroad while speaking at a programme at the launch of development initiatives in Dahod. He stated, “Dahod will play a big role in meeting this demand.” According to the Prime Minister, India is one of the few countries that can produce locomotives with 9,000 horsepower.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the production of 9000 horsepower electric locomotives in Dahod. The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 20,000 crore. With infrastructure improvements, the Dahod workshop, which was established in 1926 for the periodic overhaul of steam locomotives, will be upgraded to an electric locomotive manufacturing unit.

“Dahod is now going to be a major Make In India hub.” The workshop for steam locomotives that was established before India’s independence will now help to propel Make In India forward. In Dahod, a factory worth Rs 20,000 crore will be built,” he said. The Prime Minister stated that the federal and state governments were working together to address the issues that the tribal community was facing.

The Prime Minister also unveiled Panchmahal-related development projects. Bhupendra Patel, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, was also present.
