The Bihar state government is poised to begin construction of the 23km, four-lane Danapur-Bihta elevated corridor after the National Highways Authority of India agreed to change the design of its eastern end to ease traffic congestion near the Danapur railway station. For the £2.2 trillion project, the Danapur Railway Office will provide an additional 12 acres of land to NHAI, which has agreed to extend the length of the ramp that falls into the Dhanapur-Saguna track by 250 metres and will cost NHAI an additional 12 acres. £25m more to the Roads Authority.
An agreement to this effect was signed at a meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Amir Subhani and attended by Road Additional Principal Secretary Pratyay Amrit and Danapur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Prabhat Kumar. The Patna High Court has ordered the state government to address issues preventing the project from starting work. The elevated road will also significantly reduce the travel time from Patna to the soon-to-be-built Bitta civil airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has implemented a project worth Rs 1,200 crore to develop the existing Indian Air Force Base airport into a civilian airport to ease traffic at Patna’s JNP International Airport.
