Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has contracted with ITD Cementation to build two tunnels and 10 underground metro stations between the lighthouse and Kodambakkam interchange near Marina Beach. The 10km route will be part of Corridor 4, a 26.1km detour from the lighthouse to Poonamallee. Construction works on an underground metro line connecting core cities such as Marina Beach, Mylapore, Alwarpet, Nandanam and T Nagar will begin soon. While the deadline for the new line is four years, the 118.9km second phase is expected to be completed in 2026.
Corridor 4’s underground line from Lighthouse to Bharathidasan Road Station will be connected by a 5.15km MRT line to five stations including Lighthouse, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet and Bharathidasan Road. As part of Corridor 3, an interchange linking Corridor 3 and Corridor 4 will be constructed at Mylapore at Tirumay. Another contract includes a 4.87km metro line from Boat Club to Kodambakkam Overpass, with five stations at Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam and Kodambakkam Overpass, and an overpass at Panagal Park for changing trains.
