On the fringes of the 50th G7 Summit, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, which has an astonishing investment objective of 5 trillion yen from Japan and is poised to revolutionise India’s transport environment, was the talk of the day. The PMO took to platform X and disclosed that the two leaders’ conversation centred on advancing important domains like defence and high-speed train infrastructure, along with augmenting trade potential and business-to-business, people-to-people, and government-to-government interactions.
For those who don’t know, the 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is regarded as an engineering marvel. It will include 12 stops, 8 mountain tunnels, 24 river bridges, and 1 underwater tunnel. The gigantic project is expected to use 1.7 million metric tonnes of steel and 16 million cubic metres of cement, which will significantly benefit the steel and cement industries.
During their discussion, PM Modi and Kishida both welcomed the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan reaching its tenth anniversary and expressed pleasure with the progress achieved. They emphasised current partnerships, such as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, which represents a major development in India’s transportation infrastructure.
Japan and India are working together on a number of significant projects, such as the historic Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project, which is expected to receive 5 trillion yen in investment from Japan between 2022 and 2027 and will usher in the next phase of Indian mobility.
