VMRDA Launches ₹75 Cr Infrastructure Projects in Pendurthi to Boost Connectivity

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has taken a significant step towards enhancing regional infrastructure by launching a series of development projects worth ₹75 crore in the fast-growing Pendurthi area of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This initiative is part of a broader plan to boost urban connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and support the expansion of residential and commercial zones in and around Pendurthi, which is rapidly emerging as a key growth corridor within the metropolitan region. The infrastructure projects cover a range of development activities, including road widening, construction of new link roads, improvement of drainage systems, and the development of civic amenities. These projects are expected to not only benefit local residents but also contribute to the city’s long-term urban planning goals by integrating Pendurthi more seamlessly into the larger city framework.

One of the primary focuses of this initiative is improving road connectivity, particularly between Pendurthi and key nodes such as the NH-16 highway, NAD Junction, and Gajuwaka. To address traffic congestion and reduce travel times, the VMRDA is working on widening existing roads, laying new internal roads, and developing arterial links that connect to major transportation hubs. The improved road infrastructure will play a vital role in facilitating the smooth movement of goods and people, especially as the region continues to urbanize. In addition, the new roads are expected to decongest traffic pressure from other busy corridors, offering alternate routes and better distribution of vehicular flow. Local commuters who have faced consistent delays and poor road conditions stand to benefit immensely from these developments.

Drainage development is another critical component of the ₹75 crore infrastructure push. The area has long suffered from water stagnation and flooding during heavy rains due to inadequate drainage channels. As part of this project, modern underground stormwater drainage systems will be laid to prevent waterlogging and improve sanitation. This will significantly reduce the risk of health hazards and property damage in low-lying neighborhoods, particularly during the monsoon season. The planned infrastructure will also ensure better waste management and environmental upkeep, aligning with the state’s focus on sustainable urban development.

In addition to roads and drainage, the VMRDA’s plan includes developing civic amenities such as footpaths, street lighting, green belts, and bus bays, all of which contribute to a better urban living experience. Street lighting will enhance safety during night hours, especially for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Green spaces and tree-lined avenues will promote environmental balance while improving the visual appeal of the area. The inclusion of public transport infrastructure such as bus bays is expected to encourage the use of mass transit systems, helping reduce dependence on private vehicles and lowering pollution levels.

The infrastructure drive in Pendurthi also has wider economic implications. With better connectivity and civic infrastructure, the area is likely to attract new investments in real estate, retail, and small-scale industries. Improved access and livability will drive up property values and stimulate job creation, benefiting both developers and local residents. The region’s strategic location—close to key industrial areas, ports, and railways—makes it an ideal candidate for such infrastructure expansion. Furthermore, these developments support the state government’s larger vision of transforming Visakhapatnam into a modern, inclusive, and resilient urban hub.

The ₹75 crore investment in Pendurthi is a reflection of VMRDA’s proactive approach to regional planning and its commitment to balanced urban growth. These projects have been carefully planned based on feasibility studies, traffic assessments, and urban planning models to ensure long-term value and sustainability. While execution timelines are being closely monitored, officials have emphasized quality construction and public accountability throughout the process. Once completed, these infrastructure projects will not only uplift Pendurthi but also act as a catalyst for the broader transformation of Visakhapatnam into one of India’s leading smart cities.
