UP allocates ₹2,650-cr for metro rail networks

The UP government has budgeted Rs. 2,650 crore to complete the ongoing Metro rail projects, which comprise the Kanpur and Agra metro rails, as well as the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) route. It has set aside Rs. 100 crore for planned Metro projects in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and other towns. Kanpur Metro has been allotted around 747 crore in the current fiscal year, whereas Agra Metro has been allocated 597 crore. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation has been given a budget of Rs. 1,306 crore for the building of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor. Construction on the Gorakhpur Metro project will begin soon. Kumar Keshav, MD of UPMRC, stated that the Kanpur Metro project is worth 11,076 crore, with the European Investment Bank funding 50% and the Centre and state funding the remaining 60%. The Gorakhpur project is awaiting Union cabinet clearance after the state cabinet and the Public Investment Board chaired by the Union finance secretary and expenditure authorised the first phase of the project, which will include 14 elevated stations on a 15.14 kilometre track. The anticipated cost of the first phase is Rs. 2,670.37 crore, which equates to Rs. 167.8 crore per km.
