The RLDA has issued a request for proposals for the upgrade of Somnath railway station.

The RFP (Request for Proposal) for the major upgrade of Somnath railway station has been issued by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). The goal of station redevelopment is to provide passengers with world-class amenities and improve their travel experience.

The station will be upgraded using the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) model, with an estimated cost of Rs 134 crore. The scope of work will include major upgrades to railway stations, including but not limited to civil and MEP work for station construction. This station will feature an exclusive building façade depicting the local.

heritage of the Somnath temple, as well as separate arrival and departure lounges, and will eventually connect to the GSRTC bus station. Green technology will be used to develop the station.On April 22, a pre-bid meeting was held, with national and state-level developers in attendance. The deadline for submitting an e-bid is May 25, 2022.

“Veraval (Somnath) is an important tourist destination and a historic city. The upgrading of the Somnath railway station will boost the area’s tourism prospects. The upgraded station will also improve commuters’ travel experiences and boost business activity in the region, according to RLDA vice chairman Ved Parkash Dudeja.

Somnath railway station is part of the Bhavnagar division’s Western Railway. Somnath Temple is one of Hinduism’s holiest pilgrimage sites, and it is thought to be the first of Shiva’s twelve Jyotirlinga shrines. Tourists and travellers visiting Somnath Temple and the surrounding areas will benefit from the upgraded railway station.

Veraval is a major fishing port with a thriving boat building industry, as well as a large number of GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) fish processing plants that export seafood to the United States, Japan, Southeast Asia, the Gulf, and Europe. The CIFT and CMFRI regional research centres are located in Veraval and play an important role in the development of Gujarat’s fisheries sector.

Grasim Industries (Unit – Indian Rayon), one of India’s largest rayon manufacturers, is also based in Veraval.
