The metro expansion aims to enhance connectivity within the city and integrate it with the existing Delhi Metro network, easing daily commutes for thousands of residents.

Project Details and Scope

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has floated the tender for the first phase, which will cover a 28-km corridor connecting HUDA City Centre to Cyber City with multiple stations along the route. The project is expected to provide seamless transit to key commercial and residential hubs, addressing Gurugram’s growing traffic congestion. Key features of the Phase 1 project include:

  • Total length: 28 km, mostly elevated.
  • Key stations: HUDA City Centre, Subhash Chowk, Sector 45, Cyber Park, Udyog Vihar, and Cyber City.
  • Integration: The line will be linked with the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line for enhanced connectivity.
  • Estimated cost: ₹6,000 crore, funded by the state government and external financial sources.

Significance for Gurugram

Gurugram has long faced challenges related to urban mobility, with heavy dependence on road transport leading to congestion and pollution. The new metro corridor is expected to:

  • Reduce travel time for daily commuters.
  • Improve last-mile connectivity in key business districts.
  • Enhance real estate value along the metro route.
  • Encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport, reducing traffic and emissions.

Next Steps

With the tender process underway, authorities expect construction to commence in late 2025, with completion targeted by 2028. The project is part of a broader metro expansion plan, with future phases expected to extend connectivity to newer residential and industrial zones.

The Gurugram Metro Phase 1 project marks a crucial step toward modernizing the city’s transport infrastructure, promising a more efficient and sustainable urban mobility system.
