Tata Steel provides BRO with 1,200 tonnes of slag for the development of roads in Arunachal.

On Wednesday, Tata Steel said that it had sent 1,200 tonnes of steel slag to the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for use in building roads in Arunachal Pradesh as part of project Arunank. BRO is a renowned organisation that builds and maintains infrastructure in India’s most difficult terrain.

BRO is building and maintaining roads in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam as part of project Arunank, a 2008 initiative. Tata Steel announced in a statement that it has “dispatched the first ever shipment of Tata Aggreto, the company’s branded steel slag aggregates to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for construction of roads in Arunachal Pradesh under Project Arunank.”

From its factory in Jamshedpur, Tata Steel has provided 1,200 tonnes of steel slag for project Arunank.
Tata Aggreto’s and Tata’s rakes Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of Science and Technology, effectively gave the go light to the Nirman steel slag aggregate project.

“We are dedicated to providing environmentally friendly products with a small ecological imprint by implementing newer technology and creating new goods and applications. Slag is a by-product of the production of steel. According to Rakesh Singhal, a former Executive Director (ED) at SAIL, using such material in road construction will not only boost its endurance but also help to down construction costs.

Tata Steel Vice President – Iron Making – Uttam Singh said, “We are pleased to notice that BRO under Arunank Division in cooperation with CRRI will be developing roads in Arunachal Pradesh, and we are honoured to partner in this pioneering endeavour for nation building.”

The company dispatched the consignment of steel slag, branded as Tata Aggreto, from its Jamshedpur plant. This material has been extensively utilized in the construction of national and state highways, as well as urban and rural roads in Jharkhand and Odisha. Notably, a 40 km stretch of National Highway 33 (NH33) was constructed using approximately one million tonnes of Tata Aggreto, marking it as India’s first national highway built with processed steel slag.
