Sundar Pichai explains why everyone should use Gemini, opens up about AI with consciousness
The CEO of Google also outlined what sets Gemini apart from competitors like ChatGPT.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will essentially affect everything we do, according to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, echoing Elon Musk’s prediction that most occupations will become optional the day before. The 51-year-old was speaking with Hayls World, a well-known tech YouTuber. Pichai discussed a number of topics related to the current AI wave in the brief interview, emphasising how understanding the technology is crucial to implementing it. Pichai has been promoting Google’s AI vision in interviews left, right, and centre since Google I/O 2024.

The host opened the conversation by posing the question, “Why should anyone start using Google’s AI?” In response, Pichai stated that AI will essentially affect everything we do. It has a higher probability of being true and based in reality. You can discuss ways to perform better with the AI. It’s a really philosophical discussion that’s a little bit beyond my pay grade,” he remarked.

Pichai declared that he enjoys talking about and using AI. Pichai added that there are other reasons to use Google’s AI in response to the query of why someone should. AI, according to him, improves our experience. Time will be saved by using AI to summarise information, and one can now type far more complicated questions. Pichai believes that All AI does is simplify life a little. “We use AI primarily in our products in this way.”

Pichai responded that there are multiple reasons why Google’s Gemini is superior to ChatGPT when questioned about the difference. The integration of Google Search and other Google Products is the most important feature. For instance, it may instantly send off an email and summarise your Gmail correspondence. It works incredibly well with YouTube and the other Google apps. You will eventually be able to use voice and aim it at objects since it is multimodal, he added. The CEO claimed that because Google has spent many years developing a comprehensive understanding of the world, their advice to get from point A to point B is more likely accurate and based in truth.

AI awareness and its prospects

Regarding the possibility of a genuine AI consciousness, Pichai stated that it is a complex subject that is not yet completely comprehended. There is a distinction between an AI that looks to be sentient and an AI that is genuinely conscious, he continued, even though we all feel and perceive it. We’ll have artificial intelligence (AI) in a few years that will make you appear conscious, and you might not be able to tell the difference. However, that is not the same as it truly being conscious. It’s a really insightful philosophical discussion.

Similarly, in response to a question concerning AI’s future, Pichai stated that it’s possible for people to communicate with or seek assistance from AI. He believes that you will be able to access this AI instantly. When typing in Google Docs, spelling and grammar corrections are automatically applied. That is how AI will function for the majority of your life’s activities. We’re just in the early phases, so things will move quite quickly. “You may be preparing for an interview and talking to the AI about how to do better, and it won’t even seem strange,” he said.

In response to a question about whether Gemini will cause Google Assistant to disappear over time, Pichai stated that it would be prudent to assume that Gemini will eventually drive Google Assistant. He predicted that they will merge into one entity. Pichai also described the Gemini usage by Pixel users. According to the CEO, Pixel users looked to Gemini for ideas and considered it a brainstorming partner. “I find myself using it for queries like “Is this food gluten-free?” and “What should I do for Mother’s Day?”

According to Pichai, things become simpler with Project Astra because consumers can ask Gemini to examine a food or pose queries. “People are using technology more widely and for a wider range of purposes, and they are growing more accustomed to it.”

Wishes for the future

Pichai expressed optimism about artificial intelligence (AI) and its future, saying he hoped the technology would be used to improve people’s lives. He claimed that it is evident not only in the setting of an assistant but also in autonomous vehicles and the development of more effective medications to treat incurable illnesses. You ought to think of it as something deeper than fire or electricity. Artificial Intelligence has the capacity to greatly improve things and will essentially impact everything we do. There are hazards, and we must approach them cautiously,” he stated.
