With regard to the ₹274-crore Chennai Beach-Egmore fourth line project, Southern Railway has claimed rapid development. The MRTS services between Chennai Beach and Chintadripet have been temporarily discontinued in order to enable this essential infrastructure improvement.
With the exception of a 110-meter section that needs land exchange and final Navy approvals, most of the building is almost finished. As soon as permissions are obtained, work on this part is anticipated to start.
Southern Railway’s Chennai Beach-Egmore 4th Line Project Advances
The Chennai Beach-Egmore 4th line project, a key initiative by Southern Railway to enhance suburban and mainline rail connectivity, is making significant progress. Designed to decongest the existing railway network, the project aims to improve passenger and freight movement efficiency in the bustling Chennai region.
Project Overview
The Chennai Beach-Egmore 4th line project is an infrastructural enhancement aimed at easing train traffic between two of Chennai’s busiest railway stations. This additional track will play a crucial role in segregating suburban and long-distance train operations, thereby improving punctuality and reducing delays.
Key features of the project include:
- Additional Track Construction: A dedicated fourth line between Chennai Beach and Egmore to enhance operational flexibility.
- Decongestion of Existing Lines: Reduction in delays for express and suburban trains by streamlining traffic.
- Capacity Augmentation: Increased frequency of suburban services, benefiting daily commuters.
- Enhanced Freight Movement: Improved efficiency in handling freight trains without disrupting passenger services.
Economic and Commuter Benefits
The completion of the Chennai Beach-Egmore 4th line will provide substantial benefits to both commuters and businesses:
- Reduced Travel Time: Faster and more efficient train movement will cut down travel delays.
- Enhanced Safety and Reliability: Better infrastructure will minimize bottlenecks and technical failures.
- Boost to Trade and Commerce: Smoother freight operations will facilitate better logistics, benefiting industries and businesses.
- Increased Passenger Comfort: The separation of suburban and mainline trains will lead to better scheduling and less overcrowding.
Current Progress and Future Plans
