SOM has been given a contract by JCDC to design the first underwater farm in Jeddah

The challenge challenged the businesses to create a landmark architectural design for the Oceanarium & Coral Farm that captures Jeddah’s cultural identity while yet remaining a destination that meets current market demands.

SOM Company, one of the top architectural firms in the world and the winner of the landmark design contract for the Oceanarium and Coral Farm, offers more than 85 years of experience to this new JCDC endeavour.

The Oceanarium and Coral Farm will solidify Jeddah’s status as a regional and international leader in sustainable marine conservation by bringing the fascinating undersea world directly to its guests. The authentic architecture of Jeddah will be highlighted in the new landmark’s design, which will also reflect the city’s modern identity and adhere to international guidelines.

The CEO of JCDC, Eng Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sulaim, emphasised the company’s contribution to the achievement of a significant PIF and Saudi Vision 2030 objective by diversifying and enhancing the tourism and entertainment sectors to support the development of a thriving economy and more vibrant society.

In addition to providing residents and visitors of Jeddah with a variety of cultural and recreational destinations, he continued, “the signing of these contracts is part of our plans to develop a project that will contribute to the growth of the national economy and the creation of jobs for Saudi nationals.
