Shimla Ropeway Project to Commence in March 2025
Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has announced that work on the 13.79-km Shimla Ropeway Project, the second-biggest ropeway project in the world, will start on March 1, 2025. The project’s goal is to reduce traffic in Shimla, the state capital.
There will be 15 stations along the 60-kilometer Monal Line, Deodar Line, and Apple Line route lines. Of the total project cost of ₹1,734.40 crore, the government would pay 20%. The ropeway’s maximum capacity for one-way travel is set to be 2,000 passengers per hour, but by 2059, that number will rise to 6,000.
