SER Invites Bids for Bridge Construction and Earthwork

In order to build a third line between Narayangarh and Bhadrak, South Eastern Railway (SER) has opened bids for the construction of a bridge and earthwork between Jaleswar and Rajghat.

Earthwork, the extension of ten small bridges, the building of Goomty, platform shelters, permanent way connections, and related works from Jaleswar to Rajghat and Nuagaon Mayurbhanj Road to Rupsa are all included in the project. The contract has a 12-month completion period and a total value of Rs 100.69 crore. The deadline for proposal submissions is July 8, 2024.

SER Invites Bids for Bridge Construction and Earthwork Projects

The South Eastern Railway (SER) has invited bids for major bridge construction and earthwork projects, marking a significant step toward enhancing railway infrastructure in its jurisdiction. These projects aim to strengthen railway connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and ensure passenger and freight safety.

With an estimated budget running into several crores, SER’s initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of modernizing rail infrastructure, enhancing capacity, and improving overall network efficiency.

Scope of the Projects

The tender includes construction of new railway bridges, strengthening of existing structures, and extensive earthwork to support track expansion and maintenance. The key aspects of the projects include:

1. Bridge Construction

  • Building New Railway Bridges – SER is planning the construction of multiple railway bridges across its network to improve connectivity and accommodate growing rail traffic.
  • Rehabilitation of Existing Bridges – Several aging railway bridges will undergo upgradation and reinforcement to meet current safety and load-bearing standards.
  • Use of Advanced Construction Materials – The new bridges will be built using high-strength concrete, corrosion-resistant steel, and modern engineering techniques to ensure durability and longevity.

2. Earthwork for Track Expansion and Strengthening

  • Railbed Preparation – Large-scale earthwork will be undertaken to strengthen the railway embankments and improve track stability.
  • Slope Protection & Drainage Systems – The tender includes provisions for proper drainage systems and slope reinforcement to prevent erosion and landslides, especially in monsoon-prone areas.
  • Electrification and Signaling Support – The projects will also involve ground preparation for railway electrification and modern signaling systems, ensuring future-ready infrastructure.

Expected Benefits of the Projects

These infrastructure upgrades will have a wide-reaching impact on railway operations, freight movement, and passenger safety. Some of the key benefits include:

1. Enhanced Railway Safety & Efficiency

  • Upgraded bridges will reduce risks related to aging infrastructure, ensuring safe and uninterrupted train operations.
  • Strengthened embankments and better drainage will help prevent track failures due to waterlogging or erosion.

2. Improved Passenger & Freight Movement

  • The projects will increase railway line capacity, allowing for the introduction of new passenger and freight services.
  • Strengthened bridges and tracks will facilitate the smooth movement of heavy freight trains, boosting economic activity.

3. Economic Growth & Job Creation

  • The construction activities will generate employment opportunities for engineers, construction workers, and skilled laborers.
  • Improved railway infrastructure will support industrial growth, trade, and logistics in SER’s operational regions.

Tendering Process & Participation

SER has invited reputed infrastructure firms and contractors to participate in the bidding process. The tenders will be awarded based on:

  • Technical expertise and experience in large-scale railway construction projects.
  • Financial capability and resource allocation for timely completion.
  • Compliance with safety and environmental standards.

With the launch of these bridge and earthwork projects, South Eastern Railway continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure, ensuring safer, faster, and more efficient train operations.
